Beast in the East -Grim II

On May 14th 2011 I embarked on a Journey to Kent!

I was running the Beast in the East, this is part of the Grim series. How did I get myself signed up for this event, well I ran the Original Grim in Jan and loved it! So when I saw this run, I thought yay, more mud and puddles!

However I was left slightly disappointed,no mud, no puddles just lots of crazy hills! Man made hills let me add! The start and end of the run was around a motorcycle course! 2k into the run I hated it, and my aim was just to get around. I don't know what others thought but for me this run really lacked the fun factor.

I had to crawl up a few hills will my hands and slide down two. if your trying to avoid injuries I would avoid this run! I was left with aching legs from having misplaced my foot through the woodlands part.

Organisation seemed poor, and the event lacked atmosphere! Car parking and directions to the start were un directed, leaving people parking poorly and blocking the entrance!

Too add the event started 15mins later then planned due to many runners still waiting to use the few portal loo's.

its a shame because the Grim itself is great fun but the Beast in the east lacked all the Grim qualities.

However that doesn't suggest I won't be back next year, feeling beaten by the hills I may be back next year just to conquer them and finish with a far respectable time.

This was a 10k course and my time was 1hr 3mins! The course took you through the motorcycle course at the start, before taking you off to the woodlands ( the only bit I enjoyed) to take you back to the beginning and running the hills again!

If you are up for a challenge then I recommend this run, but don't be fooled that its like the original Grim!

Happy running all!
