The whole week I’ve not really felt 100% while working out, I even struggled with completing a 10k on Wednesday, and it got a little frustrating and I began to worry about my Long run on the weekend!
Well I had nothing to worry about, I achieved 16.4 miles in 2hrs 35mins yesterday and I am extremely happy with my time and distance. I think the highlight was how good I felt and how I still had the energy to keep going a few more miles!
When I set off for my run, last week’s disaster of a run was the only thing on my mind, I was so worried I would hit the wall and not get around. But this week was completely different. At no point did I flag, instead I kept a steady and sustainable pace the whole time, even though it mean my half marathon time wasn’t a sub 2hr time. The aim of this run for me was never the time it was the distance and getting around, I needed to know and prove to myself I could do this!
And I did, I’ve never gone home with such a big smile on my face and it ended with I love running! This was my longest run in my whole running life and I’m shocked at home comfortable it felt!
Things which I did differently this run was i took along a isotonic sports drink and also some Cliff shot blocks which I took two of at the 13mile maker! I definitely think they helped and gave me that little kick to keep going the last 3 miles; they will definitely be a part of my run’s moving forward now!
I’m now looking forward to hitting the next ‘mile’stone of 18miles!
